So I'm just going to jump into the deep end and keep it real. REALITY CHECK! It really doesn't matter if I tell you that sugar lights up your brain the same way that cocaine does.
It really doesn't matter if I tell you that 47% of the added sugar in the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) comes from sugary and carbonated beverages.
It really doesn't matter if I tell you that the Center for Disease Control estimates that one out of every four Americans is pre-diabetic and 90% of them don't know it! Can I just say that again? 1/3 of Americans are likely pre-diabetic and 90% of them DON'T KNOW IT!
It really doesn't matter if I tell you that sugar causes inflammation - which leads to disease, belly bloat, waistline expansion and increased risk of death.
Why doesn't any of this thing matter? Because you already know that added sugar is not supporting your health and the call that God has on your life.
But the reality is, that you just can't shake the sweet stuff. Of course you can't! You're not alone. Research shows that over 90% of women and 50% of men experience some form of consistent cravings.
Sugar-filled goodies provide comfort and make you feel good. And sugar, in the form of a variety of packaged crunchies, cookies, cakes and creams is your childhood friend. How many childhood stories and memories can you come up with that involve Kool-Aid, Jell-O, Oreos, Twinkies (do I dare mention Zingers and Ding Dongs?), Starbursts, Now & Laters, Snickers, Reese's - need I go on?!
And here's the other reality - your addiction to sugar-filled goodies is not all your fault, so please stop beating yourself up and feeling like a failure because you haven't been able to kick the habit. There's a reason for that, too. The real wizard running things behind the big gold curtain is none other than Big Food (aka as the packaged food/beverage industry).
It's big money to them for you to stay hooked on the drugs they're peddling. That's why they have well paid Food Scientists on payroll creating "natural" flavors and other chemical combinations to keep you coming back for more, and more, and more "hyperpalatable" food - so you just can't live without it.
Well, I'm quite frankly pissed off at Big Food in a major kind of way. And as the movie says, "I'm not going to take it anymore!" I'm turning my anger into ACTION, and I'm asking you to join me.
I'm asking you to take control back of your taste buds, take responsibility for your temple, and to boldly live the exceedingly abundant life that God has marked out for you. This world needs you and the epic impact that only you can make!
But how do you kick the habit? Well, here are 4 Simple Hacks to get the party started!
#1 - CROWD OUT CARBONATED AND SUGARY BEVERAGES
As I mentioned, nearly half of the added sugar in the Standard American Diet comes from sugary and carbonated beverages. Start today by replacing just one of your daily sugary beverages with water (try adding citrus or cucumber), tea or even kombucha (probiotic fermented drink) if you fancy a fizz.
You need the hydration anyway, and you will begin the journey to Sugar Freedom!

#2 - POWER UP THE PRODUCE
There are so many varieties of fruits and veggies, with so many yummy sweet tastes and textures. You get the sweet along with vitamins, minerals and antioxidant goodness. Replace ONE dessert each day with your favorite plant-based powerhouse.
#3 - BE A RADICAL LABEL READER
For those of you who have been in my tribe for a while, you know how I feel about label reading. Radical Label Readers don't put ANYTHING into their bodies until they know EVERYTHING that's in it.
This week, crowd out any packaged goods that have more than 15 g of sugar per serving. Your goal is to get into single digits, but let's take it one day at a time =).
