First of all, I am thrilled to meet you virtually! If we were meeting in person I’d be giving you a warm hug right this very minute, because I’m a hugger. So close your eyes, take a deep breath in and out, and feel the love that I’m sending you virtually in this moment.
Below are some fun facts, expertise and experience about me, but the most important thing you need to know is that there is a call on my life to be a bridge to your breakthrough in your whole-temple health in these "latter shall be greater" years. It’s my purpose to help you make the critical connection between your faith, food and fitness to be of greatest service to God and this world.
And how do I know that? Because of the four haunting words that the Holy Spirit spoke over a decade ago – “My people are dying.”
In the late spring of 2006, I was in a gray place - not a dark place, but lacking clarity, connection and direction. I had what many would call a “great job” in the entertainment industry, but the environment was shifting from creative to corporate and I just wasn’t settled in my spirit. I had also been married for just under 2 years, and our attempts to have children weren’t bearing fruit. I felt lost and depleted.
Years before, I read the book “Experiencing God” by Henry Blackaby and Claude Knight, which I highly recommend! There are seven principles outlined in the book for seeking the will of God. All 7 principles are awesome, but the two that stuck with me the most were:
#1 - God is always at work around you
#2 - God invites you to become involved with him in his work
My remixed version is: “Seek where God is at work and join Him."
And that’s just what I did. I started a practice of “faith walking” that I still practice today. Every morning, ear buds out, I walked with an intention and purpose to hear a word of direction and instruction. Candidly, there were days of “crickets” and static, but then one day the Holy Spirit spoke those words that which would change the course of my life - “My people are dying.”
My feet stopped dead in their tracks and I asked for clarification, “Come again?” “My people are dying” was the response. Now I'm not one who has an open chat-line with the Most High. It used to bug me a little when my friends or husband would always say, “The Lord told me" to do this or that.
But these words were clear and resonated like a bell. I certainly knew of the growing pandemic of obesity and preventable diseases like high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease that were taking the lives of those I loved and admired up close and from a far.
But even though the words were clear, something wasn’t adding up. The Bible says in John 10:10 – “I have come that you may have life – and have it to the full.” Now my brain thinks pretty logically. If Jesus came to give us life (to the full) and “my people are dying”, then “my people” are missing something critical.
So I did more searching and seeking (and walking) to understand my role in this disconnect. And you know when you ask God a question, get ready, get ready, get ready for the answer. Day after day, step after step, the vision for Fit thru Faith came raining down so I could write it down and make it plain for you.
During that time, I questioned God at every turn. “Are you sure this is what you want me to do?” “Why me?” Despite my questioning, the vision kept coming, so I stopped questioning and started obeying. Imagine that?
It’s also important for you to know that I’m not a genetically slender person. “Chunky” was actually the word my grandmother used to describe me as an adolescent. I know the waistline challenges that my grandmothers, mother and sister have battled. I’ve ridden the rollercoaster of emotional eating and weight change after heartbreak, career uncertainty, multiple hip surgeries and giving birth to two children naturally in my 40’s. I’ve worn out the “no time” to prioritize my health due to a hectic work and travel schedule and home life with young children. I’ve faced the mirror with my menopausal middle and started to believe that it was something that I just needed to biologically accept. Don’t believe the hype!
Over the years, by God's grace, I have witnessed testimony after testimony of what happens when you make the critical faith, food and fitness connection. I know what happens when you replace willpower with spiritual power and replace “man's food” with God's food to truly enjoy good health.
This journey isn’t easy and it’s not quick. It’s a lifelong lifestyle adventure of exploration and action - which is why it’s important to have a village to support you. I don't take it lightly that you’ve taken the time to read these words, and I’m excited to partner with you on this adventure. Below are some additional fun facts:
